With My Hands: Poems About Making Things
I love to make things. I love the feeling of taking raw materials and transforming them into something beautiful and useful. It's a way to express myself creatively and to connect with my inner child.

I've been making things since I was a little girl. I used to spend hours in my room, drawing, painting, and building things out of LEGO. As I got older, I started to learn more about different crafts and techniques. I took classes in pottery, jewelry making, and woodworking.
Today, I make a variety of things, from simple jewelry to complex furniture. I sell my work online and at local craft fairs. I also teach workshops to help others learn how to make their own things.
Making things is more than just a hobby for me. It's a way of life. It's a way to connect with my creativity, to express myself, and to make a difference in the world.
Some of My Favorite Poems About Making Things
Song of the Shirt
By Thomas HoodWith fingers weary and worn,
With eyelids heavy and red,
A woman sat, in unwomanly rags,
Plying her needle and thread.Stitch! stitch! stitch!
In poverty, hunger, and dirt,
And still with a voice of dolorous pitch,
She sang the "Song of the Shirt."Ode to a Nightingale
By John KeatsMy heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains
My sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk,
Or emptied some dull opiate to the drains
One minute past, and Lethe-wards had sunk:'Tis not through envy of thy happy lot,
But being too happy in thine happiness,—
That thou, light-winged Dryad of the trees,
In some melodious plotOzymandias
By Percy Bysshe ShelleyI met a traveler from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;The Horses
By Pablo NerudaThe horses of my dreams are galloping in the wind.
Their manes are like the night, their hooves like thunder.
They gallop through the fields, their hooves beating like a drum.
They gallop through the forests, their manes like a black cloud.I hear their hooves in the wind, and their manes in the trees.
I see their eyes in the stars, and their teeth in the lightning.
They gallop through the night, and their hooves beat like my heart.
They gallop through the dawn, and their manes are like the sun.A Tinker's Curse
By John MasefieldI had a dream, a nightmare dream,
Of how I made my living—
A tinker, with my pots and pans,
A-wandering and a-giving.I tramped the roads, a weary man,
With heavy pack and aching feet,
And every night I slept alone,
In some cold barn or by the street.
Making Things for Yourself
There's something special about making things for yourself. It's a way to connect with your creativity, to express yourself, and to create something that is truly unique.
If you're not sure where to start, there are plenty of resources available online and in libraries. You can find books, magazines, and websites that provide instructions on how to make all sorts of things, from simple jewelry to complex furniture.
Once you've found a project that you're interested in, gather the materials you need and get started. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes when they're learning something new. Just keep practicing and you'll be surprised at how quickly you improve.
Making things for yourself is a rewarding experience. It's a way to
